CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR FIRST COMMUNICANTS!
As
we enter the month of May, even though we remain in the Paschal season,
subconsciously we enter a different season marked not only by devotion to Mary,
but also graduations, first communions, confirmations, weddings, ordinations and
anniversaries.
First week of May, is a special season and a special weekend. Not only do we celebrate again and again that Jesus Christ is risen, but we celebrate that Jesus gives Himself to us as the Bread of Life. And these youngsters, 7 of them at last week Divine Liturgy in our parish, helped us to remember and celebrate our own Communion and our own faith in the Eucharist.
The Eucharist is the Sacrament in which the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ become present under the appearance of bread and wine. The Eucharist is a Sacrament of Love that unites us with Christ; strengthens us and makes holy our relationship with our fellow Christians. It nourishes us with the transforming power of grace; and prepares us for the future glory of God's heavenly banquet.
As a priest, I have experienced many very happy moments with a countless number of people. One of the happiest and most joyful has been and continues to be the annual Celebrations of First Holy Communion Congratulations, God's Blessings and Graces to the 7 children who made their First Holy Communion in our church. We pray that they continue to nourish their faith in Christ by frequent reception of this sacrament. Special thanks to Sister Maria Kelly for preparing the children for this very special day.
