Consecration of Msgr. John Bura to Auxiliary Bishop

A wonderful and joyful event in the life of Ukrainian Catholic Church in America took place on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the beautiful Ukrainian Cathedral in Philadelphia; Monsignor John Bura  was consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of the Ukrainian Archeparchy of Philadelphia. An Auxiliary Bishop is a bishop assigned to a catholic diocese or archdiocese, to assist a residential bishop or archbishop.

The consecration ceremony was itself very beautiful and deeply spiritual. His Grace, Major Archbishop Cardinal Lubomyr Husar was the principal Consecrator, along with Metropolitan Archbishop Stefan Soroka  and Bishop Emeritus Michael Kuchmiak, CSSR.

All Ukrainian bishops in America were present, except Bishop Paul Patrick Chomnycky, O.S.B.M. a bishop of the Eparchy of Stamford. In addition there were many priests, monks and sisters, Bishop David Motiuk from Canada, one orthodox bishop, 12 Roman Catholic Bishops including two Cardinals from Philadelphia, Cardinal Justin Rigali and the retired Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua. The consecration was beautiful and the choir sang great. The newly-consecrated Bishop John was warmly received by faithful after his closing remarks at the end of the Liturgy.

Bishop John is well deserving of the office of Episcopacy. His speech at the consecration was about how he was satisfied with his position in the church, and happy, however God calls us to be better, and go further.

Bishop John, may the Lord bless you and keep you.He chose to make you a bishop for his people: may you know happiness in this present life and share in unending joy.
